Road Trip: Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful places to go. It has the Tundra, the Continental divide and the history. Most people over look this park but once you know it is around it is a great place to enjoy wildlife and the wilderness.

There is people's history all over this park. They are only remnants even though the park service tried to erase some of it.

There are critters all over the park. They sometimes are out in the opens other times they hide in the forest from the people. The forest is sometimes harsh and some animals are not very lucky.

Tourist Attraction: Boyce Thompson Arboretum

For my birthday I decided to go to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. It is one of the largest Botanical garden in the west coast, so it says. I love nature. This place was a treat to see. It had beautiful Cacti and other plants and trees. you could walk in the Arboretum for hours.

The wildlife is beautiful. There is also history in a place like that. Boyce Thompson first Established the place in the 1920s. It was the first Botanical garden in a desert state. It was created to help educate people and to do research. It encompass more then 1,000 acres of land.

Travel Destination: Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is one of the most beautiful in the country. It has the going to the sun road that curves through the mountains. It is best to go in the summer around July and August. the Glaciers that gave the name to the park are disappearing but the park is still a site to see and a great place to hike.

I went in June and the road was closed due to snow in Logan's pass.

The road that leads up into the mountains. In the summer time it is jam pack with people trying to drive the road. This is not the case when we went...since it was closed and we were on the side that didn't harbor much people.

the mountains in the clouds is always an amazing site to see and photograph. You only get a shot like this on certain days.

There are a lot of waterfalls up in the park. Love the sound of rushing water. It is so peaceful.

If you are lucky you will see a lot of wild animals but be safe. Most parks will have handouts on what is the safest distance for observing animals.

If you want to head to Canada while visiting Glacier you should remember to bring your passport.

On the Road Poetry

 To the North.

"The mountains are calling, and I must go." ~John Muir

Peeing on the road side
Sleeping in the car
Stretching at gas stations
Soaking up the glacial air

Coming from the desert
Into a high altitude breeze.
Going through four states to find paradise
To take a break from my weary life

I watch a bear cross the road
To lounge in the grass
Another munches on flowers
While her cub plays with flies.

The buffalo slows traffic
To take a carefree stroll
Others lounge by old faithful to stay warm.
Calves suckling milk from their mothers.

A place of wonderment
Forgotten by some
But the wise will always enjoy.

John Muir’s vision
Sprouts in my head
As I walk through the forest
That will always be my peace.

Travel Destination: Yellowstone.

Yellowstone, The first national park to ever be protected by the government. It is a beautiful landscape that buffalo roam and the elk feed on the grass. Yellowstone is the home of an active super volcano. It fuels geysers and hot boiling pots of sulfur. People from all around world visit this active land. The land breaths like a dragon. The Wolves that were reintroduce in 1995 weed the herds of Elk and Bison. Old Faithful spits into the air who know how long. A site to see.

The history is also a treat to learn about. There is an arch at the north entrance that is dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt who made the national parks service a reality. He was an outdoors man. He was a avid hunter. Roosevelt said in his 1909 message to congress was "Conservation of our resources is the fundamental question before this nation, and...our first and greatest task is to set our house in order and begin to live within our means."
